The Big Storm of 2004

Long will we remember the events of the night of June 1, 2004

All pictures are within 1 1/2 blocks of our house

Update: On June 12 at around 7 pm I heard a loud cracking sound and looked out the front window to see a 30 foot branch of our tree slowly hit the street. SEE PICTURES

This is the street light in our front yard. We didn't notice this until the next day. Its still hanging there.
The light still works, just don't stand underneath it. Its dangling by the wire.
This is the tree that was hit by lightning when Marylynn and I were standing on the sidewalk on Victor Street. This tree was in the same exact spot we were standing, but one block over. It was really loud and scary, but we didn't know until the next day what had been hit.
It used to be such a pretty tree, now it covers the whole yard and driveway.
Another view.
This tree fell from one back yard onto the doorways of a little duplex across from the church.
There is just room enough for these people to squeeze out their doors.
Clean up efforts are slow on the side streets. Who knows how long it will take to get the roads clear. Its already been two days.
Notice the car stuck underneath. This area has been roped off by the fire department.
Another roped off area. Our neighbor who is away lost a big shade tree. A transformer blew right near this tree as well.
This massive tree was blocking all three lanes of Munger Boulevard going south. They cleaned this one up the next day because its a heavily travelled route. Half of it fell towards the house, the other half into the street. With all the lightning, the heavy winds, and the transformers blowing up all around us its a wonder no one was hurt. The neighbors across the street still don't have power after two days.
